We have now uploaded the entry form for the Saint & Halo tournament which will be held on the 5th August 2018. This can be found in the tournaments section of the website. This is an open competition with archers of all levels invited to attend from across Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex.
The Saint Tournament is open to recurve, barebow and compound archers, Senior and Juniors, and will include St George, Albion, Windsor and appropriate Junior Windsor rounds. The Halo Tournament is open to Longbow archers and will include Albion and Windsor rounds.
A reminder as we near the end of the winter shooting season, that we will be moving to shooting outdoors from April, with our last indoor shooting sessions Sunday 25th March and Tuesday 27th March.
There is no archery at all over the Easter weekend (1st April) so we start outdoors on Tuesday 3rd April.
During the summer we will be shooting outdoors Tuesday and Friday evenings, 18:00 until 20:00 and Sunday mornings, 9:30 until 13:00 (usually finishing earlier depending on which round is shot). Please arrive on time to help set up the range, and stay to help clear away as well.
If you haven't shot outdoors with us before then please note that we use the main school playing field in the north west corner of the site. There is parking at the rear of the school buildings near the tennis courts. Please walk through the tennis courts to the shooting line and not across the playing field. All arrows used outdoors must be capable of being found by a metal detector and all lost arrows must be searched for and found before leaving the school.
Bowmen of Petersfield are running some additional coaching sessions this winter and spring. This is a structured coaching programme specifically designed to help improving archers, and is part of the Boost Archery scheme from Archery GB.
Theses will be run on Friday evenings (7pm until 9pm) in the Gym at TPS (far end of the main school building) and we hope to run one session a month for the next few months. The first session is on Friday 9th February.
There will be a target fee of £2 per session. We can't get into the gym until 7pm, but please arrive then ready for a prompt start.
The sessions are designed to be of most help to novice and improving archers, in fact anyone who has yet to reach a First Class classification. It doesn't matter how long you have been shooting, Juniors and Seniors are all welcome. So if you want to improve your archery then please contact us and come along!
The sessions will cover a range of topics, a mix of theory and practical, and will be run as group sessions with individual help available as required. Each session will cover different aspects of shooting as part of the overall programme and so it would be ideal if archers could attend all or most of the sessions planned over the coming months but we hope you will still benefit even if you can only make a few sessions.
The next two indoor sessions are planned for:
Shooting dates have now been updated on the calendar and we have returned to indoor shooting on Tuesdays and Sundays. Indoor shooting is held in the sports hall at The Petersfield School. If you are unsure where this is, please email us and we can help you with directions.
Shooting indoors on a Tuesday is 7pm til 9pm. Sunday is 10am til 12 noon.
We kindly remind all members that with the darker evenings closing in, to be mindful of our school users and that there is a 5mph speed limit on the school grounds and to please park considerately.
PLEASE NOTE; due to school exams there will be no shooting on Sunday 4th March and Tuesday 6th March.
The Club Indoor Championships, a handicap shoot open to all club members, will be run on Sunday 11th March and Tuesday 13th March. You can enter your first score shoot on either dates. The competition is a Portsmouth round, 5 doz at 20 yards.
Our last indoor shooting sessions will be on Sunday 25th March and Tuesday 27th March. After Easter we will be shooting outdoors on Tuesday evening (6 till 8), Friday evening (6 till 8) and Sunday morning (9:30 till 13:00). The first outdoor session will be on Tuesday 3rd April.
Beginner's courses are run throughout the year by our qualified coaches on Tuesday evenings and cost £50 for 6 lessons. All the necessary equipment is provided – all you need to do is turn up.
Children over the age of 8 are particularly welcome on beginners’ courses, although those under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There is no upper age limit.
If you are interested in joining a beginner’s course then contact David Papworth for details of forthcoming courses by e-mailing: firstname.lastname@example.org
Our last course for the winter indoor season starts on Tuesday 30th January. These are held on a Tuesday evening (7 – 9pm) in the Sports Hall at The Petersfield School. Please view the winter flyer. The first course for the summer outdoor season will start on Tuesday 1st May. The outdoor sessions are held on a Tuesday evening (6 - 8pm) on the main grass school playing field (weather permitting).
This year we will be hosting the annual PAWS competition on Sunday 3rd June 2018
This is an inter-club match between Petersfield, Alton and Whitehill. The three clubs encourage as many members as possible to take part and the rounds should be accessible to everyone. The team is not chosen in advance but selected from the best scores on the day.
The rounds shot are Western rounds; 8 dozen arrows (4 dozen at each of two distances), with the longest distance being 60 yards but shorter distances for juniors and novices.
